Mt Pisgah

November 22, 2013 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
GOOD run today. It's been rare weather the past few days in EUG: mid-20s for lows, with crisp, clear mornings. LOVE IT. It also means no rain.

After a quick morning at work, I hauled ass out to Pisgah. Had to get in a long run today because I have a work in-service all day tomorrow. AND, I had to get another allergy injection before they closed at 5.

Beautiful sunny, cool/crisp (40F?) conditions when I started out at the East TH. Not much warm-up, so I started slow on the trail. Did the same configuration as Matt and I did on Sunday: "Trail 2" climb to the top, then down trail three and allll the way around. This loop took us 90min last time with lots of stops: this was when I had lungs filled with dust mite poop and felt like death.

This time around, I felt SO much better. Sluggish on the opening climbs til I warmed up (it's a minimum 1200', maybe 1300' to the top via trail 2). Once I summit'd, I worked on a swift, efficient downhill. Paradoxically, the circumnav Trail 3 was MEGA-MUDDY and wet...even though it hadn't rained in like 4 days and it's been frozen/sunny. WTF?? Way more slick than Sunday, so it was slowww going. Nevertheless, I was 3min faster today (87 vs 90min) back to the parking lot. No water, only a deuce, then it was back for the 2nd loop.

Did trail 4 again, which was muddier below, but - again ironically, less muddy on the shaded NE side. Weird. To get more vert, I summit'd again mid-loop, which was good: it forced a "tired" summit 2:20 into the run. Really form focused.

FORM ALERT: so I realized that THE easiest way to get trunk symmetry and equal hips...is NOT to shift the trunk, but shift the pelvis! When doing single leg squats I felt that when I was "neutral", I could feel a heavy load on the L leg. So today? I simply shifted my pelvis "slightly" to the left and viola! I felt "middle" and I got more out of my R hip! Cool!

Once atop summit #2, I took the trunk tape off and ran without; another quick descent all the way down, around, then allll the way back up for summit #3, then down the backside via Trail 6.

Felt a LOT better today, even at the end. I really like Pisgah for Bandera training because there are mini-loops that will allow me to "only" climb 500', then bomb back down a back-side trail more gradually. Gonna do repeats of this, as this is typical of the Bandera course.

About 3:08 total run time, including about :8 of cooldown over the last mile-ish. Walked :6 then went to get my allergy shot. In good spirits!

PM: fun little party at Cliff's friend's neighbor's place. Knew a few people there (Cliff, Mark, Melissa, Michelle), but met a ton of other folks, which was really fun. Did not engage with either of the "M&Ms": just didn't even want to go there. Melissa's baggage-tastic, I'm vibing: she's 32 with 3 kids (8,6,4) and (according to FB) a hard-core baptist (went to "Dallas Baptist" and studied something religious-y), yet is recently divorced and, according to Cliff (grain of salt here), "sleeps around a lot". SERZ? Christian hypocrisy. Dear Lord.

Ran a bunch of errands beforehand, and did laundry. Good set-up for a stress-free weekend.
