Oakridge Bike

July 5, 2009 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Bike

Weather: 80F, WINDY :|

Comments:
Woke up VERY EARLY (0530?) off only 4 hours of sleep. I figured I'd stay up and nap later. Today was a cross-train day so I decided it'd be a "good idea" to bike all the way to Oakridge and time it out for the opening of Brewers Union, so I could get a pint.

Finally left around 0930 (post-circuit). Slightly brisk upon leaving but with clear skies. Knowing the route I rode with headphones, as it's pretty boring.

Pretty ho-hum ride to Lowell/Dexter. My L knee was a little TECH on the inside, but after stretching out there, it felt better. I thought about just bagging it and going back, as I was just shy of 20 there. But I was intriqued by the "novelty" of going all the way to O-town, so I pressed onward.

Had quite a bit of TAILWIND going up the hill, which was nice, but not a good sign for the way home. Traffic was OK/so-so on the way up and the time went by pretty fast with few challenging climbs.

Rolled into Oakridge at 1140, a little early, so I biked N to the rest area and had a soak in the Salmon Creek, just beside the overpass of 58. Nice soak for the legs: water in the mid-50s.

After that I hopped back on the ride and hit up Brewers Union for a tap of their AWESOME brown ale (BEST EVER) and some pretzals. Read the Butte to Butte article in the R-G with Ryan Bak talking out his ass about all the excuses he had for not winning -- really weak. Just admit that (A) you entered to half-ass it and win $300, and (B) when you realized you couldn't do it, you bagged it. Be honest.

Re-filled my Camel Bak and bottle and hit the road. That english pint hit me hard enough to realize I shouldn't have 2, so I was off.

Back on the bike, I felt TIRED and STIFF, and the headwind going downhill was enough to slow me, so I stopped on my way out of town for some more fuel: some coffee and a scone+cookie. All three were slightly above average but did the trick. I hit the road.

The rest of the ride pretty much SUCKED: tons of wind, TONS of traffic. I bet a car passed me every 10s, on average, on 58 back to Dexter. GHEE. Took a quick stop once I got into Lowell for some H20, then pressed onward to home...albeit SLOW.

By the time I got into Springfield and home I was CASHED, almost a bit dizzy. EEK. Not a good decision: 88 miles biking on a "recovery day".
