April 7, 2014 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
The workout was 400s w/minute rest (2 sets of 4x4, with a lap jog in between) for the 15 kids. The 8 kids were doing 300s.
Did a bunch of 400s with some of our sub-varsity guys, and felt TERRIFIC! They were SUPER easy and the stride felt awesome. Really working on hip extension coming from "the toes" and strong arm swing.
Had to stop after #6 because one of our kids had an asthma attack, then resumed and did 2-3 more. All of them were between 71 and 76.
Then, I figured I'd run a couple 3s with our top 800 guy, Andrew. I asked him, "How fast are you going?". His response: "45". Me: "Oh CRAP!". But I told him I'd run behind him and "see what I could do".
What I did was a 45.6! Holy SHIT! I haven't run that fast in a 300m since probably 2005! We had a minute rest then did another one, but "only" in 47. I think my Central Governor shut me down in that second one (I bet I would've run a 46 if I DIDN't know I'd run a 45 previous).
GREAT workout in mid-70s temps and sun! And not bad for a guy who's done NO running >135 hr until a week+ ago!!
This really bodes well - for body and brain - for Sonoma. This was a huge confidence boost that 1.) I could run that DAMN fast, and 2.) that it felt SOOO GOOD! I really needed it.
