OTC All-Comer's Meet

July 16, 2009 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: mid-90s

Comments:
After work I hauled ass from the Grove to Eugene and straight to Hayward. Got there about 50min early, changed, and warmed-up with Jeff. We did my Agate + Fairmount loop, which was nice because it was mostly shaded. VERY HOT, DRY, and POLLEN-Y.

The 15 went OK. I wore my S'Novas and paced Jeff, with the goal of "sub 4:40", which would equate to sub-5 pace. We got out well, with about 20 others -- mostly teens and some older folk -- maybe 16-17 at the 100, so I had to tell Jeff maybe 4 times to "RELAX". Thankfully he listened.

Hit the 400m at 74, which was perfect. We even did the "400 move", passing a couple people and getting in good position. However, once we passed the water barrier, Jeff started to slow down. Half mile was about a 2:35.

He dragged even more ass in the 3rd lap so I was yelling at him a lot but, gasp!, it didn't really work. With a lap to go he hung tough, though, and with 150m to go he poured it on. The best was him sprinting all out in the last 100m and GOCING some high school kid right at the line...just to nip the 5:00 (1500m) barrier. He rolled 4:58, me in 4:59. Felt VERY EASY, obviously.

Afterwards I helped Jeff recover and then we went on a mile cooldown at MAYBE 10:00 pace. I thought about running the 8 "a bit harder", but I've got that 1/2M coming up and I've still got JET LEG.

After the 10:00 with Jeff I tacked on 3 more on PRE and got back just in time for a "special mile", where Jordan McNamara ran 3:59.8. Pretty cool. I gave him splits at the 200m.
