Comments:
Slept at BGD's (not too well...again! Must've been the late burger), then headed back up the hill. Got there at 9:30, just before the "Uphill Challenge". Chatted with a TON of folks over the next couple hours, including:
Oregonians: Yassine and Willie, JBob, Pam & Mac, Denise and Ken
Cali OGs: Karl H, Ann Trason, Tropical John & Lisa, Tia Bodington (technically OR, but OG anyway), Twiet and his son, Austin.
Bay'ers & SoCal: Jorge & Ashley, EEEEN, Laura O'Meara (HOT!), A-VarnZ, Chris Price
D-bagZ: Vargo :-P
But best of all, I saw Kaci for the first time. What a cutie. Really good to see her. :-) And, of course, Muguel was there! #Ugh
After that, I had to REST a bit. Hooked up with the Condit clan and had lunch with them, then went to the pre-race meeting.
GOOD meeting, indoors at the conference center, which was just PACKED. I found KC and Miguel a place to sit, which was key, because soon there was standing+floor sitting room only! A couple tear-jerker moment, namely with Topher talked. That guy rocks. No dice on the lotto.
Chatted some more with KC afterward, with not only Miguel creeping, but also ZBitZ "sidling"! Sheesh! We made some tentative plans to hang later that night.
Got a big surprise when I got a text from Sam Jurek, my '11 River pacer, who was at Squaw! So I met him for a beer or two at the Irish pub. We had an AWESOME convo: on running, relationship, and other great stuff. Love that guy. After two beers we realized we needed some food, but after purveying the fare in the touristy spots, we heard about a burrito place "across the parking lot".
Sure as shit, there's this little "hole in the A-Frame" spot that, no doubt, is for workers+locals: cheap (and awesome - West Coast IPA!) beer and good food!
More great chats with Sam, then it was time to "call on Kaci". I spent a bit of time in the lobby of her Squaw Village hotel finishing a good luck card, packaged in the envelope that I made the "Pixie Ninja" drawing on. She came down and got me, and we went up to her suite.
Hung out there......with Miguel. Slightly awkward, but he didn't sidle too closely. We sat at the table for a while, chatting about a bunch of stuff (while he was over watching TV). Good chats, she's a great girl. Then, when it was time to leave, she walked me back downstairs! So we had a bit of alone time and a couple good night+good luck hugs. I like this girl. :-)
Before taking off, I checked in with Meghan. Her ankle was moving well, but I was 50-50 about re-taping it. She is a little "high maintenance" and I was worried I'd do more irritation (skin, blisters, etc) than good, so we left it be.
Then I drove down the hill. GOOD Day.
Was supposed to run with Condit in the AM, but he ran without me. So no run.
