Charleton Trail Work

July 12, 2014 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Walk

Weather: 50s - 80s

Comments:
O.D. picked me up at 0530 for trail work up at the Waldo course. I really like doing trail work with Ed: he's a good guy, a good, DEDICATED sawyer and trail guy, and fun to work with.

Drove up to the course with him, talking about a bunch of stuff. Bill Montgomery met us up there - another hard trail worker! He's done, like, THOUSANDS of hours of trail work at Mt Pisgah.

We met at Charleton Lake at 0700...and the mosquitoes were fucking biblical! Sheesh! I've found out my '12 Lake Sonoma jacket is the perfect anti-mosquito layer: tight hood, lightweight (so not too hot), and the green color doesn't attract them. We loaded up quick and got moving.

It was pretty hard work. I carried the 30+lb saw on my back for the whole route. I did this last year, but forgot how long it was. It's for sure at least ten miles. We ran into a bunch of trees early on, and wound up doing about 6hrs of hike/trail clearing! I was pretty wiped from yesterday, but not too bad.

Really worked on power-hiking with my gluts. L hamstring is sore. ALSO: forgot to mention that my L adductor started cramping when I stopped to empty my shoe with 4mi to go Friday. This means there's definitely still a deficit in R hip push + L hip flex/"abs". Didn't feel it on this hike, but I did feel hamstring soreness, which can also be overworked (either by helping to flex the L hip, overstriding, a shitty pushoff - or a combo of the three).

Stopped for a beer on the way home. Had to finish an online gait report after that, then...had nothing to do, so I went grocery shopping. Stayed up too late "doing nothing" again...
