Mt Baldy Repeats

Cooled off today!

Pretty good day, but sluggish again. After work, I knew I needed vert but I just did NOT want to drive to Hardesty. So I planned on driving to Pisgah, but as I headed south through town, I balked at that. So then I figured, "OK, I'll run Ridgeline".

Parked at Martin St and ran an easy flat mile - and felt AWFUL, ugh! Thankfully that passed and I decided to run up the Powerline "trail" toward Baldy. The city had recently made it into a wide dirt road, which was actually a good thing because they plowed out all the poison oak.

I ran the powerline road, which is 95% uphill (with two brief respites), then the trail all the way to the top of Mt Baldy, a nice little butte in town, then down the backside and back down the road. But then I remembered a little singletrack through the adjacent woods, so I plunged into that...and found an awesome, winding, singletrack descent!

Wound up doing FOUR loops of that: up on the road&trail, then down on the single track. It was just under two miles per loop. It was terrific: an 11-minute climb, which is a lot of sustained vert (about 700-800'), but not too long that the form degrades.

Stride felt GREAT: the form is really coming together thanks to the strength work. Finished up with another easy flat mile.

Wore the new Orange N2s. Great shoe!

This could be the new awesome hill climb repeat: a lot more applicable to most ultras (whereas Hardesty is great for Western States and those huge, unrelenting climbs).

Splits (HR):

1: unknown (didn't split), 8:15 (124)
