Mt Baldy Repeats

July 30, 2014 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 95, hot!

Comments:
Parked at the corner of Hilyard and 39th and ran the 1.5 miles to the base of the powerline/Baldy climb. Did the same loop as last week: up to Baldy on the new rock/gravel road + trail, then down the backside and the "techy" singletrack. GOOD practice for "up Maiden" and "down Leap of Faith", I think!

It was HOT today: 95F and no shade on the climb (a good +25F compared to last week). The HR was OK on the first climb (<160) but spiked pretty high on the subsequent reps.

I had a mental venting day: thought a lot about work. I had to ASK to have a yearly review (where a raise was always given at Eug PT in years past), and it hasn't happened yet. But I began to fully calculate the "costs" - or lack of benefits - working here in the past year:

$3000 insurance deductible - that I MET this year (EPT had only $500)
= $1.20/hour

Lack of 401K match (EPT matched $200/month)
= $1.25/hour

There were a few other things that are missing, and it was really bugging me. I also thought about some of the issues/conflicts I've been having with a couple coworkers, which have been bugging me.

Anyway, I will prep that data to present at my review - AFTER I present the good things I've done in the past year.

Also thought intermittently about Tim - and how Kaci recently lauded his Hardrock effort. I need to talk to her about him...she doesn't quite get it.

Anyway, good run - four loops. Summits ranged between 10:47 and 11:15 or so (not bad for the building heat) with descents between 8:05 and 8:20.

Ran easy back to the truck.

Splits (HR):

10:47 (153), 8:11 (132)
10:56 (164), 8:03 (141)
11:14 (167), 8:23 (139)
11:04 (162), 8:08 (149)

Had a nice, short convo with Kaci. She's bowing out of Worlds. Good call: it would've cost >$2000 to fly there, 7 days of vacation(!!), and it's not particularly safe in the Middle East! So she's going to do Javelina instead. Not thrilled she's doing another 100, but it's flat and low-stress.
