Hardesty Constitutional with KRW

October 18, 2014 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: pretty nice - mostly sunny and a bit warm at times

Comments:
KRW picked me up at 0700 for this run. He's barely run since I've met him in 2010, but he's signed up for Bighorn 100 and he's starting to prep, so he and I decided on a Hardesty loop.

He'd be pow-hiking, so I ran about 12min easy in the parking lot to warm-up while he got a head-start.

I made what turned out to be a poor choice: I didn't eat breakfast. Normally this would be "NBD", but since I was a good 1500cal short yesterday, I wound up being REALLY low.

After the warm-up, I ran controlled up Hardesty. It was OK. I thought I felt strong, but the pace was lackluster: 68 summit (AHR 159). I caught Kelly about 2K from the top and wound up waiting only about 6min or so. Once he got there, he was complaining on ankle pain. I worked on it, but he wanted to simply descend, so I proceeded on the loop, alone.

Ran easy on the ridge, but again, feeling low. Then, when I got to the road, I ran it all the way to the highway - no Goodman Trail. My road descent was lackluster (19:xx, where "fast" is 18-low), and I was red-lining just descending in the 6-lows. But I was OK with it, deciding this would be my "tempo" for the week. But, man, I felt like shit! Even my pecs were getting crampy!

I got about 6.5 miles of fast downhill running, which was good EEEEEN-like turnover practice, but when I was done, I was SPENT! Sheesh!

Enjoyed an Espresso Stout in the lot with Kelly, then we headed back to town.

The rest of the day? I was pretty rocked! I ate a HUUUGE breakfast, trying to get the cals back (eggs with cheese, low-carb pancakes with maple syrup, bacon), then read-slash-crashed out the rest of the afternoon, including a nearly two-hour nap.

I should've - I wanted to - call Kaci today, but in this state, I couldn't do it. So I deferred til tomorrow. Watched the Duck game at Highlands with Tommy, then was home and in bed by ten again.

Wore the trail N1 blues on the run today, and felt pretty good in them.
