easy, fantastic South Eug + Ridgeline

October 19, 2014 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: mid-70s, crazy-nice!

Comments:
Another weird-ish day: woke up at 8 (10hr sleep), ate a good breakfast and tea, then got to work:

- cleaned the bathroom
- called my friend Travis, an OLD (30+yr) friend from Northern MN
- started laundry
- got my haircut
- went to Allen Bros to work on a gait analysis

Did all this 'til about 1:30, then got home and went for the run. The idea was to do some road tempo work, but the HR was spikey early and, frankly, after yesterday, it didn't seem to make sense. I ran easy through South Eug, then proceeded all the way to the Headwaters Trail. Took that up to the Ridgeline, then ran across and down the new trail, which is a fantastic rollercoaster descent to the Powerline (where I do Baldy repeats).

What a gorgeous day: almost HOT in the sun, but perfect in the woods; dry; trails were a bit damp but firm. Just perfect: maybe a top-5 all-time run.

I came with with an ACRONYM for what I need to do, form-wise, and I think it's solid:

HAPP'D!

Hinge
lumbar Arch
Pawback
Pelvis (mostly depression in push-off)
hip Drive

When I do all those things, that's max speed and efficiency. There are some minor other things (e.g. clean elbow swing, neck posture, medial arch foot engagement), but they're relatively minor compared to those big picture things.

Texted Kaci this morning, to see if we could talk, but her mom and Chris were coming to town this afternoon and staying at her house...so I have to defer to tomorrow. Another day of sitting on this... Trying to figure out how I'm going to lay it down, it comes down to three things I need in a relationship:

- A person that will take care of HERSELF
- A person that will take care of OTHERS
- A person that will be a TEAMMATE and meet me halfway

And, truly, she's grossly deficient in all three of those areas. It's that simple.

But it's SO hard because everything else is SO GOOD. But ultimately, it's like me rolling into Dusty Corners in '13: felt AWESOME, stride was coming around, I was in 7th and keeping up with Morton...but I almost collapsed in a heap of cramps!

I should've accepted reality - that there were MAJOR red flags waving - and taken action, even if it meant putting on hold all the "momentum" I had. But I didn't. I ignored it and pressed on, hoping it would just "go away". And, ten miles later, I was fucked. And ten miles later, I was totally fucked, and done.

I tried not to dwell too much upon it on the run, but it was tough not to. But damn, it was a great run! Did 3 sets of pull-ups along the way, as well, then did x7 strides.

After that: grocery shopped, then stopped at Matt & Sara's (to tape her ankle), then home, then to T&G.

Callie was there - she's such a cutie (and with the goofiness of a distance runner); hadn't seen her in a month, nearly. I worked on some stuff, then saw a rather attractive woman come in and sit at the bar, chatting with Callie. When I went up for my 2nd beer, she introduced us. Her name is Charlotte Browning, and she's a Brit who's a former Florida teammate of Callie's, and the 2010 NCAA DI 1500 champ! Pretty cool. She just moved to EUG and is a Hoka Ambassador. She was in Boulder for the summit (with all the ultrarunners) so we chatted about that.

Nice couple of ladies. :-)

I hate to do it (and, honestly, I'm not too enthusiastic about it), but I do have to start thinking about other ladies. Can't keep hammering the square peg into the round hole.
