November 17, 2014 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 22F, sunny, light breeze
Comments:
Slept OK, and decided to forgo the shitty breakfast to get in a run++ with Ford.
It was COLD out: like 25F or less. We ran just after 7:30 AM, and Ford less me on a route south from camp, that took us climbing up the ridge for quite a ways.
I felt...pretty good. Certainly got super-fresh, but...good. We kept 'er easy...but he pushed it harder on every climb, while I hung back and tried to keep the effort in MAF.
It was a beautiful morning. Even though it was cold, it was clear and sunny, with a light breeze out of the north.
Ford and I alternated between good chats - about training, racing, the sport, his future, and other stuff - and periods of silence. We rolled along the ridgeline: some big climbs, then light rollers, then a big down, and a rocky climb when the road ran out, then we turned back. An easy out and back, then a little add-on before heading back.
Really good run. I felt a little worked: from the weekend, and the OCR, but otherwise felt good. The avg HR was under 140, which was nice, but I did grind above that for more than I would've liked.
The rest of the day: packing up, saying goodbyes. The bus came at 11:15 and it was a good 3hr drive back. Some decent chats with folks on the way back, then, once at SAT, one last beer social with Dom & Katie, Matt Hart, Nosaj, and Meghan, before I took off to SFO.
FANTASTIC weekend. Really good stuff. It was great, and, in my opinion, can only get better.
Liza Howard is my new hero. I was totally smitten by her all weekend. In general, she's a total cutie, even for a "mature" 42. But mostly? Because she's a splitting image of Kaci, and, in all my hopes and dreams, what I believe Kaci's potential is as a "giving woman": truly selfless and giving, in addition to being relentlessly positive. Liza rocks my socks off. :)
Got back to EUG just before 10. Mr Roberts and Blaine picked me up and had a beer in the car! Nice end to the weekend!
