July 29, 2009 (Night)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 105. Seriously
Comments:
Ran after work today. It felt "interesting" to have run in the big-time heat at lunch, so I figured I'd have the time to do one more run in the peak heat: >5PM.
First 2-3 miles were fine, but soon I realized that I was under-hydrated AND under-fueled. I baked on the way out as I had the wind at my back. Even though it was DRY, the sweat drops were falling into my eyes like huge tears.
Once I turned back (s/p cc loop), I caught some headwind but that hardly "cooling"; instead it was like a blast furnace.
The last 1.5 were ROUGH: I was bonking HARD and my gut started to rot. I finally made it back to Oakway and promptly dunked my head in the fountain, which felt GREAT...if not "too warm"!
Insane heat, although novel, is AWFUL for training. I was wiped out the rest of the night...although 19 miles, total, might do that, anyway...
