Tap & Growler Hunt

December 2, 2014 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
It was a weird day: when the hunt email came out, like, NO one could run or host. There were maybe 3-4 runners, tops, and a bunch of drinkers...and no freaking host! On top of that, "new girl Ann" has been badgering me to run on Tuesday nights, but I'm not 100% comfy introducing her into the group just yet.

So my solution was that we simply run with Callie's Tap & Growler group: they run 3-6ish miles from the pub, usually into PRE, then drink afterward. Problem solved, right?

The only guys who were OK with it were me, Cliff and Matt Thornton. Hammer and Dr Choi refused, and ran alone, and the rest of them refused to social at T&G, instead going to Tommy's. Tommy agreed to "host", but he's got a bad back and couldn't run. On top of that, his apt is almost as tiny as mine. So...it was just the 3 of us.

Another snafu: Matt and I were there on time, along with Ann. The group was about to leave when Cliff drove up. He asked where we were running, then drove off to try to find a parking spot. We waited for a minute or two, but the WHOLE point of us going was to run with THIS group, and to get a read on Ann, who was now gone, a minute up on us. So Matt and I left.

Eventually, we caught up to Ann (and another woman, Kristy), and ran the loop with them. Callie and a few others were hammering up front and out of sight.

Pretty good, easy run. I was tired from the treadmill miles. Ann is pretty nice - a little high energy - but overall a solid person.

Cliff never did find us...'til afterward. When we (Matt, me, and Callie) were standing around having a beer, he appeared. He was mad, and we had a little "discussion" in the back of the bar. He failed to understand the intent of the night (e.g. run with a group, run with Ann), or that it would for sure leave at 6 and not wait for him. We smoothed that over, then hung out.

It was another opportunity to screen out Callie in a group, this time with Cliff and Matt. It was an entertaining sight to watch Matt and Callie debate college football.

Eventually, both Matt and Cliff left. Callie and I purposefully nursed our beers so we'd have some alone chatting, then filled up a glass of water and chatted some more. :-)
