Exercise Type: Other

Comments:
Day 2 of the manipulation course, 830AM to around 7 or so. Learned a lot of good stuff. I was a little tired-and-cranky in the AM, but I came around. I have a hard time staying focused in these courses, but it was still good.

At lunch, I did some strength work, then grabbed some food, then we resumed class 'til 7.

Gregg Johnson (and his wife, Vicky) are the Founders of the Institute of Physical Art. He learned PNF techniques directly from the creators - Maggie Knott (PT) and Herman Kabot, MD - and created the entire modern coursework of their techniques. I'm friends with their son, Ryan, also a PT and involved in the program.

I've written about him before (maybe in the 7-13 rlog entries): incredible man, and a great role model - as a professional and man, in general. Super-nice guy, very nurturing, building-up, etc.

After the class, several of us went out to dinner, including Gregg. He doesn't have to do this, but I feel he really values the effect of the rapport-building he does with the class attendees.

We sat next to each other and, near the end of the meal, asked about my life (relationships, etc), then laid it out pretty plainly: he's seen a ton of potential and talent in me, but hasn't seen it develop. I'm not sure if he said "disappointed", but it was implied.

I agreed 100%. The confluence of factors: my new job, my boss and the atmosphere there, coaching, my floundering running...have all resulted in a general stagnation in my learning and skill progression.

But he told me: "I wouldn't say it if I didn't care, and didn't think you had a lot of talent". That meant a lot.

He's 100% right. Even though I have a lot of interests, even though I have "excuses" (Sean NOT being a great, active mentor, and the negative atmosphere at work), I need to step up. I told him I'm interested in doing a residency with Kent and Mike (the former, an amazing PT in Eugene; the latter, *my* PT in Junction City - also amazing), and will formally pursue that.

PM: retreated to my hotel to veg out and contemplate life over Sierra Nevada Pales and chocolate.
