Cam Hanes Tribute Hunt

April 21, 2015 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: breezy, cool...

Comments:
Nathan led this hunt from Pisgah - aka "The Mountain" - to celebrate Cam Hanes' 2:54 Boston run. Cam is this muscle-bound semi-professional hunter and all 'round bad-ass who has a international following and lives in Springfield. He's known for running up Pisgah (1.3mi, 1000') every day, "multiple times". He's a good guy, but....a little "extreme".

Nathan met us at the Pisgah Parking lot for what was billed "a short hunt", so me, Lewis, Dano and Tommy all ran from Lewis' the 5.5-miles to warm-up.

Felt GOOD on this warm-up: 8:00 pace or faster and 12x HR. My calves were SORE from the "elite feet", but I kept it up real well, as well as good arm swing.

Once at Pisgah, we found out we're drinking a full beer BEFORE climbing! So we pound a beer, then head out to summit on Cam's favorite route, which is likely only about a mile. Nathan led us, and I decided I wouldn't pussy-foot these, and push 'em instead. We ran HARD to the top, waited for Tommy and Emily, then descended the main route.

Nathan had bold plans of more roundabout routes, but light was waning, so we descended straight down trail one. Nathan - who, at 28 or so, is the youngest (guy) in the group - is a TALENTED runner. He crushed the climb and was barely trying, yet he - like everyone else - just sucked on the downs, so I pushed him to pick it up and work on quick turnover. Still, the descent was over ten minutes.

Back at the truck: ANOTHER beer, then one more climb. Straight up the main climb we went, and we went HARD. At first, EVERYONE was pushing together, then, halfway up, things began to spread out and Nathan - just casually holding an 18-snack pack box of Pringles under arm - was crushing it, again. So I pushed HARD (like HR 18x) to stick with him. It was hard, but it actually felt good to push. We summitted around 16-flat, with the remaining crew (Lewis, Dano, Hammer) not far behind.

Nathan made us eat a snack pack of Pringles on the blustery, dusk-lit summit before descending. The descent was slow again, but felt good on the two-beer buzz.

Good run, but long! 12.5 miles.

Splits:
Cam Summit (1.09mi, 16:09, HR 158)
descent: 10:44 (126)
Trail 1 climb (1.44, 16:07, HR 167)

Wore the N1s + customs again.
