Cummins Ridge + road + Cummins Creek loop

June 20, 2015 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: perfect!

Comments:
Slept IN today: literally slept in the tent from maybe 10:30PM to 9:30AM today. Had a light breakfast of coffee and nut butter on the tailgate, then went running!

The loop started right at our truck-camp: the 5.5 mile Cummins Ridge trail going east, then a dirtroad north that connected to another trail system going back west, then a bit of 101 back to the Cummins Wilderness road.

VERY easy again: CA's 145 HR is quite slow. We were doing about 12 minute miles on very mild grade - in fact, that's what we averaged for the whole run. The Ridge trail was fantastic, with occasional views through the trees to the ocean behind us. Had some good chats and had fun...til I brought up the idea of she and I racing a 1500m "for fun" at the all-comer meets on 7/2. That mini-freaked her out.

She has a really hard time doing anything run-related when she's not "100%". Again, it comes back to the comparing (of old self and others), and having a tough time "just doing". My thought was, "just do it, be OK being slow", but that's easier for me to say than for her to do. Ultimately, I apologized to her, admitting that I'm being selfish because *I* am interested in fast running right now. But I also don't want her "escaping" into ultra trails, like SO many runners do - only to get all wound up in trails (and over-do it), like so many do.

The run turned a little cranky during that time, and both of us wound up having some 'hamstring" symptoms: both, I think, nerve or low back related. Again, I THINK I'm over-swivving again, but I didn't realize it until the tail end of this run.

Ran quite a long time on dirt, then paved road, mostly downhill, but still quite a bit of walking and slow running. We got real low on water - and it was pretty warm up on the 2000' ridge - and once we drank from a stream along Cummins Creek, we felt better. AWESOME singletrack ridge descent on our westbound return, which was fun.

The last kilo *on 101* was a little annoying but not too treacherous, then we power-hiked the majority of the 2.5-mile dirtroad climb.

20 miles on the GPS watch in 4:00:00, with 3500' vert. Very easy (AHR 110). CA tweaked her ankle and had some L hamstring stuff going on, but otherwise we had a solid run.

PM: ate "breakfast" from the tailgate, then drove to town (after a detour to find my phone, which fell off the top of the truck in the trailhead parking lot!). Snuck into Adobe resort for a shower, hot tub and sauna, then grabbed beers at this new farmstore pub in Yachats, then amazing fish fry at Luna's, an after dinner drink back at Adobe, then back to the camp!

PM PM: got fucking stung by a yellowjacket IN MY SLEEP! Ankle and elbow! Freaked the shit out of me, as we had to empty the whole tent to find it! Zipped 'er up tight after that! LOLZ
