Rob Flat to Michigan Bluff with Ford, BGD

May 23, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Big Camp Run: Rob Flat to Michigan Bluff for me, and to Foresthill for most, and all the way to the river for Ford! We all drove up together, meeting first in Michigan Bluff to pick up BGD, then we all rolled up to RF. We got there early, but so did dozens of other folks - not with the official training run group. Got a little chatty with Bruce LaBelle before we took off in cold, foggy conditions. CA ran with us from RF to a mile past Miller's Defeat - not before spraining her (already repetitively sprained) right ankle. The Hokas aren't...aren't great on technical trail.

She turned about just after we saw Twiet doing the same, and she drove back down to MB to wait for us.

From there, it was me, Ford and BGD rolling along, intermingling with the other early starters, and grabbing a bit of aid at Dusty Corners.

I felt...a little off early, and then got worse. Nasty gut rot that caused two early pit-stops: one a mile past Miller's, then again, mid-Pucker Point. It was bad enough to ground me to a halt just out of Last Chance for a third deuce, and by then, I'd fallen back alone, barely slogging along.

Descended Deadwood alone, then rolled up on a couple guys on my hike up to Devil's. I was out-hiking them, then decided to roll along with them and chat. Turns out one of the two had won a "Last Chance" slot at Gorge, almost one of the very last-chances there were! Pretty cool...

Once at the top, I rolled along solo and caught BGD, Ford and a slew of other runners' at The Pump AS, including Queen, Princess, and Stephanie Howe (and her husband, who was "cramping"...on a fucking 20ish mile training run).

Slogged fairly easy behind Meghan while BGD flew down El Dorado behind Stephanie. Her stride looked..."off": over-rotating to the left side. Didn't have the heart to tell her.

Stuck around behind Meghan - with Ford - as BGD powered up El D to get to work. The pace was real easy- not sure if the HR peaked past 150. Felt WAY better by then, and generally had a good time climbing out of El D with that crew.

Once I got to MB, we were among the very first there, and CA was there, helping out with MB and the MB old tymers. I snuck into Carol's house for a quick shower, then hung out for several hours, helping out at the AS with CA, before we went to pick up Ford.

Pretty good run, but was bummed I felt so shitty. Won't be eating "flax seed pancakes", pre-run, again! :-s

AHR 142...didn't ever dwindle too low...mostly because I felt so shitty, I suppose.
