Slept...not so great...from 4:30AM to about 8:30 AM, with a bunch of Euros packed like sardines into the Curley Basement. Woke up and went upstairs and had some tea with Connor and Tyler, while the Euros slowly started rousing. Didn't chat too much with any of them, which included D'Haene, Guilliame Calmes, and like all the French guys that raced, apparently. CA and I chatted some with Christina and Dennis, then busted out to get to the track.
Got some starbz then hit the track by 11ish. Shoveled down some good breakfast, then things got exciting: Katie Trent coming in at 10:58 low...then Gunhild Swanson hitting the track! She was 300m to go with about 1:40 to go??
I had "flashbacks" of the Race for the Soul (2001) documentary of the woman who was at the corner when the horn sounded, so I all but dropped by coffee and sprinted to the backstretch, then ran along side her, screaming and telling her to drop her bottles and vest! She ran pretty damn fast and, holy shit, she made it! COOLEST thing I've ever witnessed in running. :-)
After that...shit, we figured we'd just go. I chatted only with a few people, but feared getting caught up a billion convos, so we left even before awards.
Drove to Roseville to Ford's hotel to get CA's stuff, said some goodbyes to his extended family...then hit the road!
Good, good trip. Not quite as special as year's past, but still really good stuff. And CA really had a great time.
