July 18, 2015 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: high 80s, hot, altitude, TOUGH
Comments:
So we got back to the TH and there were a few people, including a guy we'd seen at the Maiden AS. He'd come down solo, saying he'd turned back because of a blister, but his wife had gone to the summit (via L-o-F). Well, she STILL hadn't come down by the time we'd gotten to the parking lot, so he was worried she was lost.
Thankfully there's a fair bit of cell signal, so he was able to call her: she WAS lost. She'd lost the trail (lols, no surprise) coming down Maiden and bombed straight down (hiking) to the lake and couldn't find her way out.
Ugh. I immediately changed out of my work clothes into running stuff. I KNEW we had to go get her. This guy was like 60+, and it was a 3+mile, +1500'(or more) climb and we didn't want her to try to find her way out. I had a reasonable idea where she was at, so I grabbed my shit, including my phone and headed up the hill.
Pushed pretty hard for a bonafide hard tempo. TOUGH after the long day: AM run, then the trail work, and it was HOT and DRY! Ugh. But I figured I was due for a tempo, anyway.
Did the 3miles in about 33 minutes, the pushed past the AS and down toward the lake. There was a bit of drama for a bit - she wasn't there, and my cell battery was dying, but she appeared! I introduced myself...then jumped in the lake! It felt SO damn good!
After that, we walked down... Real easy hike down, and basically, it was like pacing: gave her my water, and talked to her. She was "fine", but tired and a little nervous. But otherwise fine.
Whole thing took about 2hrs. Glad to have done it to avoid Search & Rescue or some other crazy shit. Pretty easy.
PM: grabbed more beer and a footlong hotdog in Crescent then headed back to camp. Stayed overnight. Not a ton of direct shit-talk from MB; in fact, he kind of avoided us all night + weekend.
