AM Baldy x3 with CA

July 28, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: high 50s, a bit humid

Comments:
Slept well last night. Damn, it's such a huge difference when I sleep well! That, and I'm getting quite used to up at 0600 - also key.

We were up right away at 6, then out the door and into the truck before 620, and on the run by 630. Not too stiff but I felt the weights from yesterday. Deuced in the woods near the start, then got after it.

After watching the Mtn Run Champs, I was motivated to run faster: not necessarily grinding the ups, but PUSHING the downs to a reasonable degree. Told CA I didn't have any huge aspriations other than that.

She definitely wasn't recovered, but said she wanted to run. So I had her lead the first one. I felt really good - almost easy - as she led, then I drifted ahead at the halfway point, like last week. Only this time she fell back quite a bit.

I kept pushing, then pushed over the top and kept running hard at the top, out and back, til she summited. I split 10:23, she probably 10:4x. She looked bad. Ugh. I told her "let's just get down the hill", and I took off.

I pushed pretty quick, and wound up splitting 7:21 on the descent - pretty quick.

She came down...and was asthmatic again. And negative. Ugh. I just said, "run easy, it's OK!", so she took off for some flat running, while I did two more.

I felt GOOD today. Form focus:

- being forward
- tall & arched trunk
- high knees & feet
- PELVIS LEFT + R foot in
- open pelvis

It was work, but never felt forced. Pushed up and over then cranked the downs. The last was toughest, because I had zero rest: the downs was like 15x hr at times.

Splits(HR):

10:23 (153hr), 7:21 (138)
9:53 (167), 7:07 (152)
9:50 (175), 7:09 (156)

AWESOME SPLITS. Clearly working beyond threshold on the last 1+, but I didn't care. It was time to run hard.

Met up with CA, who wound up doing a more mellow tempo. Easy jog back to the truck, trying to impress some patience and acceptance: that she's not always going to feel good, and that's OK: to just ACCEPT where you're at (at that moment) and do what you can and need to do!

Ran in the Orange N2 trails, which felt good.
