lunch run with Jeff

October 20, 2015 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 60, but sunny and "humid warm" (ish)

Comments:
GOOD run with Jeff. He scheduled our lunches to overlap, so we ran together, on my West PRE loop. Started easy enough and neither of us TRULY grinded, but we actually got down to low-7s pace. I forgot my HRM strap...and that was OK. Going "by feel" I felt fantastic.

It's dawning on me more and more that:

A.) to be my best at long ultras, I HAVE TO grind. Or, I have to do a lot of it, because long ultras are pure grind.
B.) in small[er] doses, and at certain times of year, it's OK to grind!

I feel like Rocky in Rocky II: where for my whole career, I've been an over-grinder, and it's mostly gotten me far, but it's a bad "winning" strategy. So, for the past TWO years, I've been "learning to fight right-handed". In Rocky II, he flights for like 13 rounds right-handed, then UNLEASHES the right hand on Apollo.

I've done the disciplined MAF and base work. Now, it's just about time to work on that unleashing. :-)
