Yachats - out and tempo back!

October 25, 2015 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: rain and SUPER windy

Comments:
Slept in again. Today: classic Eugene fall, RAINY day. Relaxed at home, then another fatty breakfast for Haus. Then we got our stuff together, went to get coffee...then hit the coast!

Rain and wind, but not very cold. We stopped at Cape Perpetua to check out "Devil's Churn", which is really cool. Some BIG surf crashing on the rocks! Almost dangerous!

From there, we went to Adobe, where Haus sat up top in the lounge overlooking the ocean while CA and I ran. We did the classic out and back on Trail 809 (less than a mile), then Smelt Sands Beach. We lucked out with low-mod tide, but damn, it was windy!

On the outbound, we had a northerly tailwind of 10-20mph. We hit a major river+creek at just under 4 miles, then turned back...into a WALL of wind!

So CA drafted behind me and we made a workout of it! 3 miles hard into the wind, increasing to 20-30 mph! Man, it was a great workout. A steady wind will PUNISH a slow cadence! So the focus was on strong feet and staying forward (which is key for quick turnover), then the usuals: pawback, knee drive, etc.

Felt strong and simply was trying to keep CA behind me. She's been sensitive to grind pace, but she hung in really well, as my HR climbed toward 160!

Did 3 full miles back to the trail, then jogged easy. She had more "dead butt", but I think it was better than earlier in the week.

PM: snuck into Adobe resort's pool! They have a shower, and sauna and hottub...and changing bathroom! So clutch!

After that:
- beer and kraut at Yachats Brewing + Store
- seafood at Luna's
- drove home.

PM: "Soryukken League" with haus! Barely anyone there, so we played a ton of unlimited games for $5!! SO FUN!
