Hardesty Constitutional #1!

October 17, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: beautiful weather

Comments:
Woke up feeling way better, and no longer bleeding! CA and I went out to Hardesty...our first run out there since early June (which, coindicentally, was our last "argument").

I told myself that running the Hardesty Constitutional -- an hour straight uphill, then rolling, then an hour downhill, then rolling -- wasn't applicable McKenzie training.

I was wrong.

The utility of The HC is that it's essentially three hours of grinding. Even when you're not trying, it's still a grind.

Hardesty training was CRUCIAL to my Bandera success in 2012. So I've committed to focusing on The HC as the foundation of my long run training, this year. My goals, between now and Bandera:

- 10 total HCs (or at least Hardesty summits)
- 1 HC + up and down (28 miles, 7k' vert)
- 1 double-HC (36 miles, 9k' vert) - longest run, pre-Bandera

Since CA was still "licking nuts" from Three Sisters, she ran the easier Goodman up and down, while I ran The HC solo. Splits:

Hardesty 67:35 (159)
Sawtooth 28:47 (148)
Lost Creek 26:13 (143)
Road 20:29 (147)
Goodman 37:49 (159)
--- 3:00:53

Solid climb, feeling pretty good, but the mid-secitons were slow. Also, I was without water and dehydrated from the bleeding and lack of drinking yesterday, and the spring was dry! F. Wound up slowing up to avoid problems, then actually drank from the upper Goodman creek.

Did not push actively hard on Goodman, but again, it's a grind just to run it!

Ran just over 3hr-flat. "Par" in my grind days is a little under 3, with 2:50-low being pretty fast, and 2:48 (April, 2013) as my PR.

Good run, though!

PM: Ducks game at Highlands. They actually won, which was nice!
