Hardesty Constitutional #3 - with CA (sort of)

November 8, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: rain, but not terribly cold

Comments:
SLEPT IN, til nearly 10, then a "light" breakfast (unseasoned eggs and cheese), then it was off to Hardesty for my first bonafide B2B in a while.

I wasn't sure what I'd do, other than "Just get it done". CA is still sensitive to longer runs, so she did Goodman up and down, while I hit Hardesty, but she wanted to meet me for the final Goodman return, so she ran up the dirt road to rendezvous.

Ran again with no HRM - annoying, but OK. It made me just go by feel. Felt pretty easy, but somewhat fatigued. BIG FOCUS on "pawback" and keeping my knees behind my toes, and using my feet well (whole foot, pushing straight back).

Split up Hardesty was fine: another 68:30. Actually brought come calories, eating a tiny Clif bar sample nug (but only 8 grams of carbs) to stave off any B2B bonk.

It was pretty COLD up there, so I pushed along through the fog and clouds along Sawtooth ridge. I pushed the pace a bit there, and pushed the down on Lost Creek. The creek is rolling again! So I stopped to slurp a bunch of water.

FAST descent, with a little push, to the road, then, maybe less than mile in, there was Callie Alice! And she was cranking so I kept pace with her, no doubt going over 150 HR, probably.

Good road split - best yet - then we got on a dark, soggy, but gorgeous Goodman Creek Trail. CA had been HAMMERING the downhill, and asking ME how I was feeling, so I knew she was feeling good, but she was a bit tentative going down the slick trail, so I pulled out front. I waited at the main creek crossing, just to be sure she was OK, then push on alone, over the "Bacon Double Shitburger", the double shit burger, and the few single shitburger climbs dotting that final two miles.

Felt really strong: never that I was pushing hard, just assertively on the flats and downs, and simply "running" the ups. The tail end was slick, but not yet sloppy...we'll see how long that lasts.

Finished in 2:56:5x - my best split in a while. Grinding, yes (probably mid to high 15x HR?), but I really did feel relaxed.

CA was about two minutes back. SHE had a good run, with minimal "deadbutt"!.

The splits (no HR):
Hardesty: 68:30
Sawtooth: 28:05
Lost Creek: 24:48
Road: 19:25
Goodman (not incl rests): 35:52
--- 2:56:54
PM: home, chatted with Liza Howard for RWB camp feedback (and recommended BGD as a future counselor!), to Oakshire for a pint for Hammer's BDAY, then to the grocery store and home to work on my iRF article. REALLY HUNGZ in the evening!
