Chief Joseph Trail snowshoe with CA, Courtney, Bert

November 27, 2015 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Walk

Weather: 20s, beautifully sunny

Comments:
Took out the snowshoes for this one: drove the 0.75mi to the TH, and took the Chief Joseph Trail. These mountains are called "the Oregon Alps" because of how sharply they climb: the floor is about 4300', but within less than a mile deep, the peaks climb to like 9k! This trail was one that wound around toward a high plateau. We didn't have the time (or energy) for the full summit, but we figured we'd go out a bit to get a view.

We were a little unprepared: Court and Bert had no snowshoes, and CA and I had 'shoes...but no real boots! It took me maybe 30min of 'shoeing before my feet were FREEZING (requiring me to put plastic WinCo produce bags between my socks and shoes).

Wound up hiking out about 2 miles (and maybe 700') on a rugged, unkempt trail, before turning back. It was nice, but nothing amazing.

PM: got a "happy hour" beer in Joseph (Ember's - it was OK), then back for leftovers and more beer. Watched the end of the Oregon-Oregon State game. F

Fun, relaxing day!
