North Willamette Trail slush with CA

December 13, 2015 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 39, slush!

Comments:
Lazy-ish morning...or at least we didn't get out 'til noon. Didn't think we had much to do, but it caught up with us, quick.

Drove to Oakridge for two things:

- run
- cut our own Christmas tree

For $5.50 you get a permit to cut basically ANY tree (almost) in Willamette NF - pretty cool. CA went from mildly against to ragingly excited about this, so we did it.

Drove up river and we weren't halfway there - maybe 750' elevation - and there was snow! Like snow in the Hardesty parking lot. By Oakridge (1200') there was about 3" of slush. Got our permit, then drove to nearby Westfir to run on the North Willamette Trail.

It was slush and raging snowmelt and rain water. The trail was intermittent DEEP puddle and "creek trail". The feet were freezing immediately, but once they numbed up, it was fine, and actually pretty fun.

Ran 3 on the slick, slow trail (like 11+ min miles, rolling), then did a mile on an uphill dirt road to hit 4, then ran back. Solid run, VERY easy.

Not too trashed or tired from yesterday.

PM: got our tree by driving WAYYY up on a mountain road, just east of Hardesty - our "Hardesty tree", then hustled home...but could NOT find a damn Christmas Tree holder at Target or Fred Meyer.

Then rushed to Highlands to work on UROY voting. Had a nice crew of Me, CA, Emily, Dan-O and Mr Madsen helping! It's TOUGH!
