July 2, 2016 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 50s to nearly 80? But consistently nice
Comments:
Very cool adventure run!
The group:
- me, CA, Mike Taylor
- Hammer, Emily, Tommy (partial)
crew: Gretchen
Ran from the southbound inlet, then clockwise.
General notes:
- the south end had tons of old boulder flows and was slow near-boulder running at times
- the north end - the blow-out eruption side - had tons of soft (and at times, dangerous) lava sands-dusts. It was a cool landscape
- run was VERY easy, primarily because Emily was consistently slow-as-shit all day: slow up, slow (poor technical running) down. We waited for her, constantly, which I guess was fine, because it kept the effort down.
- I decided to not eat anything: didn't feel like sugar, and I thought the effort would be mellow enough, and it was. I felt good.
- Tommy went shorter, counterclockwise, and met us at about "2 o'clock".
- The Finishing miles were much faster when we split but, but CA and I ultimately slowed down to make sure Mike wasn't running solo (on some of the dangerous in-and-out canyons we had to delicately hike-scramble through)
GOOD run! And nice time-on-feet training, as the whole duration (with no pauses) was 9h45m!
AHR: 119 (max 156)
Vert: 7200'!
Post-run: beers in the parking lot 'til Mike left for EUG, then the rest of us went into town for pizza and beer. Fun!
