Springfield Loop +

July 13, 2008 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 56F but humid!

Comments:
Garbage run today. Legs felt it from the start, just clunky from a lot of hard biking the previous two days. Wasn't terrible, but they didn't feel efficient.

My "plan" was to only do hard running 'til my knee gets better. Might wanna re-evaluate that plan, since this seems to be a soft-tissue injury, along the lines of patellar tendonitis. Ergo, to take "heal days", then come back and hammer on it is pretty idiotic -- which is what I realized after today's run.

Rolled along pretty good on this run. Knee was fine 'til I got on Pioneer Parkway, when it began to hurt again. Back on the river path, my initial pace was 6:16. Decided to rachet it down for the next couple miles to make it into a pseudo-workout. Split a 5:40 and 5:32, then another half mile into Alton Baker (2:47). Surprisingly tough. The path was quite winding and hilly in the Pre area, but I just didn't feel good. On top of that, my goddamn R calf damn near cramped (see Tuesday's entry!), so I stopped and stretched that.

After stretching, my knee hurt A LOT upon start-up. SUCKS. Gonna have to take some serious time off and when I DO run, keep it easy. This BLOWS.

Came back and stretched a bit, then cranked out a huge batch of TRANcakes, as the whole family + Stef came over and jammed in our apt for breakfast. Didn't accompany them to Portland/Seattle, so goodbyes were exchanged this morning. Good to see everyone -- makes me a bit home-sick.

SUPER-TIRED the rest of the day. Went to Stef's to print something. She drove me there with my bike, and I biked home. She put air in my tires, taking them from 30-40 PSI to 100. Big difference, as I cranked 22mph on the way home on that bigger air. Nice extra fitness in the PM.

Ate a good dinner off my leftover organics and went to bed at 2030.

The plan: no running 'til my knee is virtually pain-free at rest/night/bent/sitting/etc, then very easy, short distances. :|
