Boulder, CO - easy creek path run + 4x200 at BHS

September 21, 2016 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: mid 60s, overcast, nice

Comments:
CA's inspection went really quick, so I didn't spend too long at the crappy interstate Starbz before she picked me up...and we headed back to Boulder! We figured we'd use the spare time before our afternoon flight to run and hangout...

...possibly not the best idea, given what transpired.

I was a little tired and cranky, but we wound up having a decent run. I'm fairly certain I'm wholly allergic to the entire Mountain Time Zone, so once I got an allegra on board, I felt better.

Parked at the library downtown, then ran up creek for a mile or so, then back, and down to the high school. The track was technically closed, but we ambled in, anyway.

I'd never done any hard interval running at altitude, so this was interesting. We did a simple 4x200 to wake up the legs, "the normal way" (CC).

Felt pretty good! I would get WAY out of breath, but all things considered: prolonged travel, allergies, post-16-miler, and altitude, the splits were solid:

32.9, 32.7, 31.6, 31.9

Post-run:
- had a "creek bath" in Boulder creek! Not terribly cold, but not warm!
- had an awesome lunch from "Sprouts" - a co-op grocery store
- made our leisure way to DEN

We figured we had PLENTY of time (like 90+min early?), but things went to shit:

1. It took FOREVER to get gas at the airport gas station. There were a MILLION cars there, and half the goddamn pumps were out of order! +30 minutes.
2. Dropped the car off at Avis...and the goddamn busses took FOREVER to arrive and drive us there. +30 minutes
3. Had to check our bags with Frontier. To simply **drop off*8 bags that had already been "checked in" and paid for? +30 minutes!!!

By the time we got up there, we were about 30min from DEPARTURE! Their policy? No drops <45 minutes! Callie got SUPER-upset, because now we had to take a goddamn later flight! But guess what? Only ONE seat on the later flight!

By the time we got it all sorted out, we realized:

- Callie had to get on the 9PM flight
- I had to STAY on the 5:30 flight...which was now taking off in like 20 minutes!

So I frantically TOOK OFF to security, running DOWN an "up" escalator in the process, then hustled to security. Since I had only one carry-on, they let me into a faster line, so I blasted through that...only to find I needed to take a goddamm TRAM to the terminal!

15 minutes...

Got on the tram....then OFF the tram.

11 minutes...

Door close in 10!

With a full backpack on my back, I sprinted has HARD as I possibly could, up an escalator, and to the gate.

Triumph! It hadn't left! WHEW...

...and it wasn't leaving....

...and it wasn't even THERE!

WTF???

So it quickly dawned on me that our outgoing flight was **clearly significantly late**...yet they still bumped Callie from the flight. A few frantic messages later and she's through security and to the gate. We tried to un-re-book her onto our original flight, only to find that this [basic service of every other airline except shitty Frontier] wasn't possible at the gate, and she had to go to a customer service desk.

So SHE sprinted there, waited in line, crying, until she was allowed to un-rebook on our original flight.

So, there we were...back on our flight. Only one problem: our checked bags, containing all our camp gear and jackets, and the bulk of CA's clothes, were on the later flight!

Long-story short: we got back to PDX by 8PM...without bags.

Ugh, what a shitty end to a good trip. I officially HATE Denver airport, and loathe Frontier airlines even more!
