Kids: grind mile, 500/200 workout

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: nearly 60, mist

Comments:
Ran warm-up and cooldown with the kids. They had a grind mile and 500/200 x4. Warm-ish and misty, so pretty good conditions for both running and coaching.

Kids did well - except John. He was in a weird mood to begin with, then pushed WAY too hard in the grind mile (running like 5:4x, while Hunter and Callan ran 6:10 or so). After that, he struggled on the first 500-200...but hung in there...then BAILED on the next 500...only to blast back in the 200. Very manic-depressive. Then - after attempts by me and Callan-Hunter to talk to him - he just all-out quit.

Ugh. Tough situation. I chatted with him privately , and tried to reframe his running from being about HIM to being about how HE can HELP his teammates. Clearly, HE should've been The Man on those 200s, even if he fell back a bit on the 500s. But he's too absorbed in his own internal struggle ("Run Fast" & "Be the Man" vs "Pain").

It's gonna be challenge to keep him on board, but I'm up to it.

Hunter and Callan had great workouts. Callan looked simply effortless on the 200s (in 31.x!). Now it's time for him to shoulder some load in the longer reps.

Sean Wolfer looked super strong!

Maddy was SUPER strong. She's got sub-5 1500m potential

Jaesa needs to work on arm swing on a stable trunk.

Daelyn busted out some fast running, as did Sam Ellis.

Good runs, and great group of kids.

Did nearly 2 miles of cool-down. Kids had a big mileage day (7.5?).
