grind mile, 4x 500-200 at PHHS

September 7, 2017 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: smokey, but not terrible. Hot...then cooling off

Comments:
Worked in the AM, then decided I'd try to:

A.) clear the Bates Loop trail at PHHS - the *only* bit of trail the kids have, and the only thing that makes them a traffic free loop (connecting two dead-end streets). It's about 300m long and overgrown AF. Jonathan and I cleared it last spring, but it's way worse, now.

B.) go to practice.

I figured I could go to PHill, do a workout, clear the trail then, if practice was being held, I could meet up and run with them.

After work, went to Kelly's to get the trim equipment, which included a gas whip with a branch-brush trimmer that would prove to be clutch.

Pretty damn smokey - by looks, but it didn't "feel" too bad - at the school...but also legit clouds.

Warmed-up 2 miles, drills & strides, then did a grind mile. Grind mile felt good, but not very easy. Breathing was OK, but not great:

5:57

From there, it was onto the 500-200. This is a PAINFUL workout. And I didn't want to get discouraged, so I didn't look at any split. And...I'm either glad I did...or pissed I didn't, because they were SLOW.

Ran them clockwise from the 100m mark...and it makes me wonder if I'm using the wrong mark. The 200s were slow last week, and these...were damn slow. But it was ALL slow, so unless the fucking track is like 410m, I'm just slow-as-shit right now:

99.1 (42), 35.2
100.4 (39), 35.9
100.4 (43), 35.2
98.6 (43), 35.9

Yeesh.

Stride cues:
- Tall & forward: did a good job of this
- hips left (and general forward hip load): good
- right butt back-pawback: good
- arm swing: small, strong (not too loopey forward): good

So the stride felt good and not too rushed, but:

- felt some L anterior hip tightness
- left lateral foot felt banged up afteward
- left lateral hip was sore

Dunno...it just sucks, though. Gosh, even 6 months ago, I was running low 90s and low 30s for this. And back in '13? Fucking 87-90 and 29-32!!! UGH.

Part of it is stride.
Part of it is conditions.
Part of it is "illness recovery".

But it still sucks. You can't ignore it.

I do need to go see Mike, but they STILL haven't called back regarding an appointment...from a WEEK ago. I wonder if there's some hip shit that's not moving right.

Cooled down a mile+, then got after the trail clearing!
