Hardesty EASY up-down

September 20, 2017 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: RAIN, cold -- like 50s at the bottom, 40s at the top, WINDY

Comments:
Weird day. It's like WINTER, now. Ugh.

Worked, then got a late start over to Hardesty. I thought about a harder effort or some combo of doing 1-minute hard charges, but decided against that. Moreover, I decided to stick to my "6-8" breathing pattern: in-in-in, out-out-out.

What's interesting (and should've been telling) about this pattern is...I used to have trouble just doing this on an EASY run! So I should've known that doing this on Hardesty would be difficult, and slow me down.

Nevertheless, I did it...and did it the entire time!

Felt pretty strong, but it was certainly difficult to keep that slow, deep breath pattern. I noticed when I stopped inhaling through my
nose, I'd fail to get enough oxygen (and want to break the pattern). So it was really good breath practice.

That said...it slowed me down. My stride felt strong:

- forward (sometimes consistent)
- tall (decent - I'd lose breath here, too, if I slumped)
- pelvis L
- finish the extension

but, as it turned out, I barely broke 69 for the summit! Crap. Oh well.

Felt clunky and sore on the descent, which was a mediocre 42.

That said...BAD conditions. It's not muddy yet, but there was early wash-out and, dang, just a lot of rain and WIND. COLD!

Rest of the day:
- hustled back to work for a PM patient
- PM work
- home late, made soup with all the dang vegetables we have!
