easy South Eugene, then x3 uphill sprint, 3x200m with James

February 8, 2018 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Outrageously nice

Comments:
Worked in the AM, then home for misc tasks, including some home errands. Didn't sleep too well last night - gassy, AGAIN. I think it was the Trail Butter, but not sure.

It got SO damn nice out: like 65, but it felt like 70+. Ran in a t-shirt from the house, down to Amazon, to meet James, one of my newer coaching clients. He's nearly 50, and a novice runner (without much history), but...he's outrageously fast at short distances! However, he's been having hamstring issues with his hill and 200m sprints, so we're going to observe those today.

Ran nearly 3 miles before he showed up, then he and I ran a mile on the bark. We talked about "The Hinge" -- for him, his hamstrings may be acting-up because he's *too tall*.

From there, we ran past the office and up to College Hill. We did 3x ~150m hill sprints on a steeper hill than usual. TOUGH! I'm tired. I told him to not go faster than me...because I suspected he could. So he was right on my shoulder on these gut-busters. They felt better as we went along.

After that, we jogged back down to the office, then down to SEHS track for 200s.

He led the first one...and BLASTED IT. I could barely hang on! We ran a 32, which is LEGIT speed for a novice runner! Since he had some symptoms, and we needed to work on The Hinge, I slowed us on the next one, running 36. Then he led the last, going about 35 or so.

Felt strong. I, too, was working on my hinge, but also "pawing".

I'm also liking this new image:

"Hips Behind the Heart"

This encapsulates both a posture: forward and crouch

and propulsion: opening the hips, behind.

We jogged a mile, then I peeled off to hit the gym, before running home to prep for our track meeting.

Met at Gary's house en route to PHill: me, Callie, the other Calie (sprint coach) and Gary. Nearly the same group. Excited for the season.
