June 26, 2018 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 50s - 60s, on and off rain
Comments:
Slept decent, but woke up a little grumpy for some reason.
Callie and I went for a morning walk out to the Mendenhall River with Chris and my mom, which was pretty enjoyable. From there, Callie and I launched for our run, on the west side of the lake, which had great glacier views.
Solid run: the first mile was paved to the TH, the second+ a nice, mellow wide singletrack, but then the ensuing miles got steep, rocky, slick, then overgrown. A brief scare when CA RAN INTO a log at about head height ("I couldn't see it with my visor on!"), but she was OK.
On the way back, we were slowed by a MILLION tour groups (OK, maybe 4) and were annoyed by glacier view helecoptors, but it was an otherwise cool trail.
In the final 3 miles, we decided on a minutes fartlek:
1-2-3-4-3-2-1 "hard" with 1:00 jog(ish) rest.
The first couple were on pure trail, then the second half of the 3, we spit onto the road. That's where it began to get hard, and CA pulled away a bit. She was nice enough to hang back during the 4-minute, which I got through, then we ran pretty hard on the 3-2-1.
Felt solid. Not wonderful, but solid. Worked hard on efficiency with the right leg:
* stride wide
* toes in
* pull straight back ("out" to the right)
Rest of the day:
* breakfast
* to Juneau downtown (wet and rainy)
* dinner then goodbye to Chris, who flew out.
Solid day. Steve did more of his own shit, again.
