Juneau - Moraine Trails to Mendenhall & Back (grind/tempo)

June 30, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: foggy, but decent: 50?

Comments:
Got up EARLY: 4:13AM. Wanted to get in one more Alaska run before our long drive home. Didn't sleep well, but it was more out of anxiety of having to wake up early.

That said: I was more anxious yesterday, and it could've been because I missed a Singulair pill the day before...

Drove to the Mendenhall River TH and ran from there. Things came around pretty quick and it began to feel like we'd grind this run. Ran past one of the several small "lakes" (or big ponds) and saw TWO beaver, which was cool! They flapped their tails crazily when we ran by.

Ran the convoluted but great trails all the way to the lake and visitor center, then the path all the way to the falls, at the base of the glacier. CA was already grinding in front of me, and it was tough to keep up going 7:00 pace.

We got to the falls at like...5:20 (and our flight was at 7!) so we hauled ass back: CA pushed first. I struggled to keep up til the "fuse was lit", but once we got on the trail, proper, I got ahead and maintained a pretty hard pace. It felt GOOD!

Ran low 6s effort but high-6s pace over those final two miles back to the car. Strong, fun final run!

Rest of day:

* fast shower, pack up and head to the Juneau airport
* LONG line there ("barely" made the flight)
* quick flight (worked on my "negative reviews" for Dredge 7)
* 90 minutes at SEA, where we ate "breakfast tacos" that contained cheese (experiment)
* quick flight to PDX: fell asleep, then was really sleepy on the drive back to Eugene

Retrospect: that's my dairy reaction, but it was more mild, compared to historical.

Rest of the day:

* drove straight to InShape to lift weights (pretty solid)
* groceries
* home, unpack
* "celebratory beers" at Friendly

Good day, great trip!
