10th Annual Crater Lake Rim Ride

September 1, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Bike

Weather: 40 - mid 70s?

Comments:
Up early at 5AM and out the door, van packed for a potential overnight, by 5:40. Slept pretty well.

Drove us up to Crater and got there at 7:40. Listened to a good chunk of McCain's funeral but missed the POTUS' speeches.

Got on the bikes at 8.

Tough ride, but always great. I felt remarkably good, though we weren't going fast.

Callie? Her bike is like WAYYY too small! No idea it took us three years to figure it out, but her frame is like...six inches too short (in length). She always seems to have issues on this ride, and that's why: she just can't access her glutes, which is KEY on those long climbs.

So we abbreviated the ride:

* biked from outside the park, south and up (that huge 10-mile, 1500' foot climb, all in the final 4-5 miles)
* biked clockwise to Mt Scott. Finally realized that perhaps the worst climb of the ride is about 4mi/1000+. Relentless.
* did the Mt Scott run. Harder than I remembered
* biked out to a a lookout for a snack
* biked back!

46 miles of biking, and about 4.5 mile run.

Good day. Napped in the van (So clutch!) then drove to Bend for beer and dinner, then drove toward McKenzie and slept near the pass. Good day :-)
