6x 3:00 fartlek with CA

September 20, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 60s, fine

Comments:
Slept IN this morning, but still didn't feel all that rested, or particularly good.

Around 11 we finally got out for a run. We drove to the office and ran from south, the (new) standard route to PRE's trail, then back via Fairmount. It's a good route for this timed fartlek, where distance isn't super-relevant. That said, when I've felt good this summer, I've routinely gone over a half-mile per segment, which is solid on a soft, rolling and uphill course.

Ran easy for the first mile, then per usual, we start to grind in the second mile before taking off. But today, I could tell it was going to be tough. The grind felt like The Workout. Thankfully it was actually somewhat fast (7:01), because it felt HARD!

I let CA lead because I felt really low. She pushed solidly, but clearly felt rough as I did. Through the first 3 reps, we ran maybe 0.46 miles. Bummer. The 4th was long again, as she wanted to get this random strava segment from a former grinder teammate of hers (with which she was successful). The final segment was the big grind up Fairmount. Then, after about five minute of jog, we finished with 4x 20s sprints on 24th, back to the van.

My legs felt SO heavy. This is a sign of considerable fatigue, and I undoubtedly went too deep, even in this workout. Still just too depleted from the wedding.

Rest of the day: brutal packing up of the van for the trip. We weren't even sure where we were going, and between the fatigue, disorganization, and shit everywhere in the house (presents, wedding supplies), the inertia to leave was immense. We finally left around 4:30. And thank god, CA let me nap in the back of the van while we drove up I5, toward Hood River for the night.

I felt a lot better after that, and we had a decent dinner and meal in town, before crossing the Columbia to a strip of public land to van camp for the night. Nice to be out of town doing something, but it's going to be an EASY weekend, I hope!
