December 14, 2018 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Walk
Weather: 30, not that cold
Comments:
Me, CA and Bridget Franek (2012 Olympian in steeple) skied-snowshoed into Maiden Peak. We parked at Gold Lake Sno-Park, then skied down the road to the Maiden TH.
The learning curve for our new alpine trail setups was...steep and painful! Big mistake was keeping our ski boots outside, in the back of the truck. I could barely get them on, and they'd prove to be a torturous vise on my feet!
First third was fine and fun: the gradual down to Maiden. After that, it was a slow shuffle. The conditions were nice: fresh, powder snow, but once again it was dark and it was slow.
And the boots hurt worse and worse. By the time I got on the PCT, it hurt so bad, I simply had to go in front and "blaze trail" to the cabin, while CA and Bridget went slower. It was the hardest - most painful thing I've done since I had to shuffle in at Black Canyon 60K (in the midst of my gut issues).
But we made it! Thankfully (for tonight), there was only one other guy - that we didn't know about, because he was upstairs napping for the first half-hour.
Fun night: beers, food, fire.
