Maiden Peak adventure

December 15, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Walk

Weather: 30s, cloudy with peaks of sun

Comments:
Didn't sleep very well: too much chocolate, alcohol and smoke inhalation.

Got up and stoked the fire at 5:30, made some coffee (boiling snow in our pot on the stove!), and by 7 everyone else was up.

Had a couple nice treats:
* Brent skied in at 10:30 the night before to join us
* Nate (Bevel-)Jaqua skied in at 9:30!

Callie and I were hesitant to even try skiing today, with our major boot issues, but once he got there, we suited up.

Boots were much better: especially after I set them by the fire, so they were warm (and thus bigger and better fitting).

From the Maiden cabin, we skied the nordic loop cutoff over to Maiden Peak trail, then started our way up. It was slow going, since we alternated having problems with gear.

Just before it got really steep, Callie and I decided to turn around. She was still having shin and foot pain, and wasn't feeling confident about skiing downhill, either. So we ditched the skins and skied down. It was pretty fun, but with so many trees, it was a little challenging to be conservative. She, Brent and I skied down then put the skins back on and shuffled back to the cabin.

Rest of the day:

* got back at 2: and three young guys were at the cabin.
* by 3? Another 3-4...with THREE dogs
* by 5? Another 3...with another TWO dogs

So on Saturday night, there was a total of 14 people and FIVE (goddamn) dogs in the cabin!

The dog people were pretty annoying, and half the dogs were really annoying. But we still had fun.
