December 16, 2018 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Walk
Weather: mid 30s
Comments:
Slept remarkably well. For as annoying as the Dog People were, they inexplicably went to bed by 9PM! So we slept basically from 9 to 6:30, with a couple random dog bark awakenings (and pee breaks).
By 6:30, we decided to pack up. Usually we enjoy a morning in the cabin, but it was such a clusterfuck with everyone in there, we knew we wanted to just get out.
We tried to be quiet but once a few of us (including two folks downstairs) started packing up, the stupid dogs got all excited and woke everyone else. This was for the best, since we were able to turn on the lights.
By 7:30 we were all packed up. It was much warmer than yesterday: it got up to mid to high 30s and stayed there overnight, rendering our fluffy snow into heavier melt.
The return trip was faster, but still hard: we kept the skins on the whole time, even on the downs, then shuffled our way on the flatter lower part of Maiden Peak Trail.
From there, it was the 1.8 mile trudge up Gold Lake. By then, Callie's shins were so bad that she was nearly crying, which sucked. Learning curve!
Took just under 2hr to get out. Post 'shoe:
* jump-started the dead battery of a fellow cabin mate's car in the Gold Lake lot
* drove down to Oakridge for AMAZING breakfast at 58 Drive In
* went home...just in time for me to see the final 5:00 of the Bears-Packers game, where the Bears clinched the division!
Good weekend. TOUGH, but a "fun" feat of strength!
Glad we did it, AND really glad that Bridget came. She's super nice, really positive (and high-resilience!!) and I hope can-will be a good friend for CA!
