BLIZZARD 2019 - Day 1 - long run through town

February 25, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: around freezing, snowing hard

Comments:
I got up at my usual 6 to find several inches of snow. I pushed on and drove my truck down to the office. It didn't take long to realize I wouldn't be working: clients were canceling left and right, so I closed up.

Around 7:30, after doing a lot of mobility, I went for a run. Wasn't sure what I was gonna do...but just kept running!

Running on the roads wasn't bad: just enough cars had driven to create a path through the 6-8" (and growing) snow, and there was very little traffic, so I ran on the road.

Ran north on Patterson and decided I'd run all the way to Eugene PT to check in on Jeff! I KNEW he'd be there -- he's nuts about still working on snow days -- after plowing through 8" snow on the uncleared sidewalks, I made it to the office. He was seated at the front desk, on the phone. We chatted a couple minutes ("Do you wanna work?? Oh wait, you don't work for me..." -- this was a serious question). I laughed.

After that...I ran to Springfield to see Matt! I ran on the usually crazy-busy MLK Boulevard, again, on the road. Footing was solid 'til I got to Springfield.

About a kilo from his house, I heard someone yell my name. It was Matt! He'd walked to Darimart to get coffee -- they had no power! I walked with him back to his house and chatted (his basketball team is on an amazing run and is in the state basketball quarterfinals). Once at the house, I said hello to his girls, then kept going.

From there, ran to Franklin Boulevard and ran back to Eugene. It'd been snowing continously and, on the east side, there was a good 10" of snow! Again, braving it on the roads, dodging the occasional car...

I felt remarkably good:

* stride and pelvic mobility was good. REALLY focusing on "anterior depression" -- that FLICK part (reach) before the PULL (of pawback).
* right heel was remarkably good, but was getting stiff. When I laterally striked, it would tighten
* left hip and pelvis was so-so. Not terrible, but not great

Campus was a hoot! With school cancelled, kids (underclassmen in the dorms) were having a party in the streets, building snowmen and being dragged in sleds behind trucks!

Ran up Agate and down 24th, where I ran into Tony (from RunHub), who ran with me for a quarter mile before I wrapped up at my truck.

Rest of the day: CRAZY:
* made it to the grocery store
* made it home...but nearly beeched the truck, turning around to park on Crest. My tires SUCK right now, so even FWD isn't good enough when the road isn't plowed.
* late-afternoon, the city announced a snow emergency, meaning you must clear your cars off the main roads to get plowed. In the midwest? If you don't move your car, it'll either be BURIED in snow if you're lucky, otherwise it'll be towed away. So I scrambled out to find a place to park the truck. Drove a couple laps around before trying Olive St, the road below us on the hill. BIG MISTAKE. Turned down it...and within a block, was stuck. I was in a little gully on the street and it was too slick to get out. So I had to fucking BEECH my truck. GODDAMNIT!
* Monday night: dinner at home

Weird day...and it barely melted!!
