3x Baldy + tempo mile with CA

June 11, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 60s, warm already and humid?

Comments:
Up at 5:50. Slept well, but starting to truly need more.

A little bit of a slow start to our Baldy session. Had to stop 0.3 miles in because my ankles were crazy stiff: this was after I'd been beaming at how much they've come around. A quick bit of work and they were fine.

I had CA lead all three uphills. The intent today was just "do the work": after last week's workload, we're both pretty tired. The key to sustainable training, especially in the "second lap" of a build-up is to simply Execute.

Good workout: it felt very sustainable and hardly difficult. Callie had a harder time, though, mostly because she ran 8 miles AND biked an hour yesterday.

Splits:

10:57, 8:10
11:15, 8:02
11:13, 8:30 (I had to stop, because I split open the skin of the underside of my left fourth toe! Hurt a lot!)

On the grind mile, I pushed. Regaining my fast stride is a huge priority. At first the toe hurt a shitload and it felt like I was running super-slow. Then I saw "6:40" pace on my watch, so I pushed. A bit later, "6:15". "That's all?" I pushed more. Didn't feel hard, but I felt like I was moving.

Finished in 5:48.

Shit-you-not, I'm pretty sure that's the FIRST sub-six mile I've run in 2019. Ridiculous, but I'm thankful at this point.

Good workout. CA was really down on herself, but I tried my best to give her perspective on the training she's done, and where she's at.

Light weights afterward.
