"Joe & Callie Hunt" - short Pisgah run + jump in the river

June 11, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 90? Not terribly hot

Comments:
Worked noon-6, ending with Brent, with whom Callie and I chatted, before he leaves for his first 100-miler at Bighorn. After that, CA and I drove straight to Pisgah for a short afternoon run + river plunge.

Legit hot for the first day all year! The main hunt was doing some non-descript, long(er and undoubtedly harder and hotter) run in town, so we decided on a run + plunge. This is what I think I'd LOVE about the Auburn hunt!

Ran mostly flat at the base of Mt. Pisgah, on some new trails but mostly gravel path.

Felt a little rough at first...OK, really rough at first, then OK.

THESE are the sorts of key runs: working through the physical stiffness of a workout, but also the mentality of "getting going" with fatigue and stiffness.

Post-run:
* jumped into the river. Still pretty cold, but not bad
* no beers (since we only had bottles, and I didn't want to be the dick that got broken glass into the swimming hole!)
* dinner #1 of good deli sandwiches at Sequential.
* home for dinner #2, half a beer, and some dessert.

Good day.

FYI: we found out Gabe Gruenwald died tonight. Sad deal. Never knew her, but I have a few second- and third- connections. My best HS runner, Sean, ran with her husband, Justin at UM (and was de facto, her teammate, as well). And we had Gabe's brother as an intern at Eugene PT, six years ago.

So sad and "tragic". Really makes you think about the agony of a spouse (or yourself) dying so slowly in his/her prime.
