Zion NP - highway 9 to Kobob Terrace Rd bike

January 19, 2020 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Bike

Weather: 50, windy!

Comments:
After breakfast, while the rest of the Coopers were still out (presumably at Angels, though we missed seeing them), I went for a ride on the bike we rented. It was 50+ and sunny in town, by then.

Road west out of town to Kobob Terrace Road, which climbs along the western border of the town. It took 12 miles to get there, so I only road another 4 before turning back.

(I wish I hadn't -- past where I turned around, it got amazing, though tons of climbing!)

Ride back was tough: uphill and a stiff headwind!

Good ride!

Rest of the day:
* hung out a bit
* PM mini-adventure to the east side of the park to see like 7000 year old petroglyphs!

* rare Cooper family drama!

Went to dinner at the brew pub -- our first dinner out of the whole trip. CA noted that Courtney "seemed mad at her", but - in typical Courtney-fashion, was incapable of demonstrating any assertiveness or communication...

...til we're in the waiting-room bar of the restaurant, having a beer (first one since Monday),. when she starts crying. Repeatedly!

We didn't have any idea til CA asked her mom, who said, to the effect, that she was mad at Callie! WTF? By then, Courtney had gone outside (presumably to continue crying). Callie - God bless her (but at my nudging) went out to confront Courtney. More crying ensued on both sides!

Long story short: it wasn't a full blow-out (incapable for most of Callie's family), but Courtney was resentful that CA is "too controlling", setting the agenda, going on runs, etc.

It spurred a decent amount of discussion amongst a family that is (pathologically) under-confrontational about stuff like this.

Really glad it happened, especialy since Courtney has been sooo passive-aggressively miserable to be around, both this trip and Thanksgiving:

max "needy"
min communicative
min giving (including really poor time, effort, and financial generosity)

By the end: we left the restaurant, got pizza for takeout and had dinner at home.

Weird (but good) sort-of end to the trip.
