January 18, 2020 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Walk
Weather: 30s - 40s, sunny
Comments:
Up early to do this run/workout with CA, who needed hard uphill running.
This turned out to be among the coolest trails in the park. Got their early enough to get a close parking spot. CA ran up, while I power-hiked. Made it up the super-steep switches, to the backside ("Walter's Wiggles"), where the snow from Thursday night had turned into ice! This turned CA around, so she did a double+. I pressed on and made it to the high plateau and started onto the tight, spire-like peninsula lined with chainlink "rails" to keep you from falling off the edge. (Apparently one person dies from falling off this, each year, and I'm surprised it's not more!)
The snow and ice wasn't bad in the beginning, but when I saw how steep the second half was going to be, I stopped midway -- plenty appreciative of the cool views.
Power-hiked back down, and passed a million people making their way up.
Rest of the morning:
* lattes and breakfast with CA
* hung out at the house (while the Coopers were out adventuring)
Ankles felt pretty good today...but sore in the PM
