Hood - Timberline 3/4 skin

January 31, 2020 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Other

Weather: warm/overcast high 40s --> super-windy/rain mid 30s

Comments:
Slept in a bit and awoke to...pretty much not raining, but overcast and warm. Then we got it together: drove a mile to the Summit parking lot

Like last Saturday, we skinned up the ski hill, onto Alpine and to Timberline Ski resort. Weather was fine (and fairly warm) 'til we got to the ski hill. Then, like last time (and logically), it got cooler. Not many people on the hill on a Friday morning.

I felt pretty darn good (rested) on the skin up. CA was dragging a little bit (maybe the psychological knowledge of having a 25K to race tomorrow?).

About 2.5 miles in, we near the tree line...and the weather turned: super windy, at first. Cold. We mushed onward, close to the penultimate chair lift, but still a full mile to the top (open) lift, where we ended last week.

By the time we got to the top lift, the wind worsened (30mph?) and it began to mist! Shit!

We cut bait: changed to downhill mode and skied the short distance to the lodge.

Once there, we had a fun little hang-out, again, letting things dry off, taking off the boots, and enjoying the Spindrifts I lugged uphill in my backpack. I also did the honors of stoking the three different fires in the lodge (one at the ground level, then the two going in the main atrium). Standing next to a blazing fire felt great!

After a bit, we courageously donned our semi-dry gear and skied down. The trail was much more treacherous this time, since the snow was - on the margins - wet, heavy and nearly impossible to turn in.

Rest of the day:
* PB&J in the van
* drove back to Eugene...in time to go to a "dog birthday party" at Alexis' (:-| )

Decent day, but the trip was sort of a bust, espeically since it was 65F and sunny in Eugene!
