March 7, 2020 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Bike
Weather: cold, rainy (at the end)
Comments:
CA had one last GDR long run, but no one to run with. We decided to do a hybrid trail-dirt road-paved road route: a 25-miler from Yachats to Perpetua, east uphill, down into the Yachats River (Rd) valley, then back. I did this run in my RdL build-up in '17. Tough run but 'fast'.
And, I could bike along with her.
I gave her a headstart (on the trail to the top), then hopped on the bike. I had a couple false starts, so by the time I got to the Perpetua road turnoff, she'd gotten a BIG headstart.
Problem: it's relentlessly steep hill and my bike climbing speed (maybe 8-9mph?) is hardly much faster than possibly her running (6-6.5?) Doing the math - if I didn't go fast - it could take like a half-hour to catch her!
So I hauled ASS. It sucked! HARD! And...I wasn't feeling great, which made it worse.
Thankfully...it was only about 15-20min of ass-hauling 'til I caught up with her...right where we camped.
After I caught my breath, it was actually a measurable workout to bike uphill with her. But once we finally ascended, the descent (north and east) to YRR was a little rough and tedious. Pure braking.
Once on YRR, CA tried to do a tempo, but was having a lot of "dysfunction". I could see some major stuff going on with her trunk. Instructive.
She finished her day at 25 miles running. I did about 21, biking. Freezing cold!
Rest of the day:
* sauna at Adobe!
* more coffee
* breakfast and treats along the sunny coast
But after that, I felt a strong compulsion to write and inform about coronavirus. So we wound up at Overleaf where I wrote for like FOUR hours. Not ideal...but I feel compelled to help people.
Stayed at our little room at the Drift Inn. Probably unnecessary since it was dry that night.
