FUN DAY.
Slept in (and slept pretty well) til about 7:30. My ankle, for how fucking painful it was last night, felt pretty darn good this morning....INTERESTING.
"Morning bathed" in the Keller Creek swimming hole, then drove into town. Got coffee and pastries at Green Salmon just before my online "Vagus Nerve Mobilization" course began.
Drove first to the State Park Point in town, but the internet wasn't good (nor was it a good place for outdoor work), so we parked at Smelt Sands. The wireless was good enough to take in the entire, nearly four-hour class.
After a foggy morning, then clouds burned off, revealing a bright and blazing sun! Soon I was bare-shirted, sitting on my table, set up beside the van on the end of the parking lot. First hour of the course was lecture, but we soon dove into direct technique demo and practice. CA was my patient and we found some interesting (and relevant!) cranial, upper cervical and vagus nerve restrictions! GREAT course.
By the time we finished, around 12:30, it was HOT (AND I felt pretty burned!). We packed up and - for a change of pace - drove to Newport to bike. But rather than ride the (rather monotonous) Newport to Toledo route along the river/bay, we drove to Toledo and rode up the (less trafficked) river road, on which the "Barrel to Keg" relay follows.
Easy, fairly warm ride of about ten miles 'til the pavement ran out, right at a little park and boat launch. After some floundering over the murkiness of the water, both CA and I jumped in the "upper" (not salted) Yaquina River! Felt good and was a fun mid-ride refreshment.
Rode easy-medium back. Once back, I decided to add on a hard finishing ride to Newport while CA drove back.
Rode pretty darn hard, mostly into a bitchin' headwind. Took 43 min to go 14 miles or so (solid PACE).
FUN afternoon!
Rest of the day:
* showered in a gravel lot outside town
* went to the docks and got a WHOLE albicore tuna to take home (They fillet'd it in front of us)
* beers at Newport Brewing (outside - thankfully not very busy)
* back to Yachats. Tried to eat at Luna's but THAT was packed, so we drove to Smelt Sands and made our own food while watching the sunset
GREAT DAY.
Really encouraging the ankle! I think:
1. It's TRULY nerve pain
AND
2. It's (mostly) coming from my neck...AND my SKULL!
