September 26, 2020 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: mid 60s, humid-ish, mostly sunny (with one micro-rain)
Comments:
Didn't go to Crater today. Just too much to do:
* did gait analysis (took a while(
* did other stuff
* misc work stuff
Instead, CA and I went to the office and I worked on her a good 90 minutes (mostly nerve-related work).
After that, the skies cleared up a bit for a beautiful afternoon, and I went for a run.
Ran to SEHS (ran into Grace, one of my long-time clients and 5'6" girl HJer), hoping to run barefoot, but the field was teeming with little kids playing flag football, so I looped around and headed south.
Ran down to Tugman, up and over Donald St past Highlands, then east to Fox Hollow and Rexius trail. Ran clockwise.
I did not wear (or bring) any face-covering today. I haven't been. But all day I was giving folks WIDE berth: if on the sidewalk, I'd jump into the street. On the trail, I did the same, or swing wide to give well over six feet.
Down by Martin St, as the trail goes into the park I'd just past (wide of) a couple walking when an old guy (maybe 60?) gray haired, wearing a big ol' bandana on his face. I barely saw him - but still hugging the far right of the trail - when he swerved WAY off the trail. Just before passing, he threw up his arms in disgust and said,
"I GUESS you don't need a mask!"
While I didn't break stride, I snapped at that moment:
"NO I DO NOT! SIX FEET!"
I continued, louder:
"AEROSOL SPREAD! CONFINED SPACES!"
It was like I was trying to educate him as I ran by at 8 miles an hour.
That was a boil-over borne from a crazy amount of frustration. The craziest thing is that this fucking annoying-ass "South Eugene Guy" (classic hyper-liberal, yet hyper-uptight), he and I share probably 90% of the same values and beliefs about covid. But I can tell you this: no one is getting infected by a 0.3 second "fly-by" from >6 feet away.
Bullshit.
Finished my loop, and actually felt pretty good. Heavy in the last mile, but pretty solid.
Rest of the day: beers, late dinner and some TV. Mellow.
