Shirley Canyon Hike w/JSG

June 24, 2022 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Walk

Weather: warm, 70s

Comments:
Once we got back to Oly Valley, we did a bit of mingling, but since it was fairly late into check in (maybe 11:30?), there were hardly any actual runners around.

Oddly, I spent a ton of time talking with board members: Twietmeyer, Medinger (and Gary Wang); Karl Hoaglund (at UR Mag), the Trent family - from whom I bought $400(!!!) in raffle tickets. I was sure to always introduce JSG as "my good friend and great PT colleague". One of my goals: introduce her to the world, because I think she's an incredible person.

After that brief mingle (and the realization that I'd need to be at the pre-race meeting for the raffle results), we changed in the van and went for the hike.

Had an OUSTANDING chat, yet again, as we meandered our way up that rocky canyon to the high country. Talked about a lot of things: running, career, goals. So great.

I took a brief jump-in stop to one of the lower pools of that creek, at which time we ran into some old boys: Chris DeNucci, Matt Laye and EEEEEN. I wasn't super-stoked for the latter, but I was so excited to see those other guys, that it was cool.

Slow, easy hike to the top, gondola down. Then got to the meeting just as it ended - where I chatted with MORE board members (Billy, Topher, and Tia Boddington, who was my editor at UR Mag for like, 1 month, BITD).

Then, the lottery: NO dice for me, but fucking Kaci won! Unreal.

Rest of the day:

1. Tahoe hang-out with Jules. Got a snack and a couple (light, not great) beers at a place on the drag in Tahoe City. MORE awesome chats.

2. Back to the campsite. Got there a bit late (maybe 7:45) and took a while to prepare what was an elaborate meal (because, of course, I wanted to impress her). Jules bought Bullitt whiskey, which we "enjoyed" (liquor is always tough for me).

We ate our full meal around the fire after sunset.

Then the big chats. She really dove into things, asking probing questions and in essence, "going there", quickly.

My "plan" was to simply be friendly and connect with her on Friday and Saturday, then "push the envelope" - and tell her and SHOW her how I feel - on Saturday.

But it seemed she was accelerating that. So I just went with it. We dove in deep, namely with the obvious question:

"WHY are you...HERE?"

She's SPENDING THE WEEKEND WITH ME. OVERNIGHT. JUST US. I had set up a tent (which I agreed to use), but still. Zack, once he found out, was obviously upset and concerned.

So WHY was she HERE?

She didn't have a super-compelling answer. But I did. I laid them out, the biggest of which was:

• she feels things for me. And feels GOOD when she's around me, always
• but she doesn't BELIEVE it. She doesn't believe that what I've told her is real (how much I love her) AND that I, myself - who I am, what I do, how I make her feel - is truly real. So she keeps "checking".

In SF in January, we had a long chat along the beach, then a long hug afterward. Nothing happened.

Around 11 or midnight, we long hugged again. And...never let go. And...eventually...we kissed.

And it was even more fucking amazing than I imagined it would be.

Then...we went in the van. And slept there, together, but after doing just about everything but "all the way". Her passion blew me away. Incredible.
